The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation has unveiled a newly refurbished Molecular Biology Immunology laboratory and blood bank at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Makeni. The hospital has been without a proper and efficient laboratory for some years now.
The project was funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation with three Billion Leones and implemented by Dokita.
The Lab is to diagnose hemorrhagic fevers like the Ebola Virus and other fevers.
Taking journalists on a conducted tour, Dokita Project manager, Professor Carla Montesama says the use of the Lab is not only for Makeni but also for other towns and villages around.
She says they have also provided training for lab technicians, and that the lab will start operations with anti body response of Ebola Victims.
Certificates were issued to lab technicians that have been trained during the refurbishing of the Laboratory.
