Paramount chiefs in Bombali District and the Advocacy Movement Network district have signed a memorandum of understanding on how to put an end to Female genital Mutilation and child Marriage in the district.
Addressing Paramount Chiefs, the Chief Executive Officer of Advocacy Movement Network Hawa Samai said AMNET has agreed to collaborate with paramount chiefs in implementing a project using multi-disciplinary approach to address the problem of FGM in Bombali district. She expressed appreciation to government for ensuring that children’s issues are prioritized in the Agenda for prosperity.
Madam Samai stressed the need to discourage the practice of early marriage and child female general mutilation as they will have negative impact on the educating of the girl child.
The Chief Executive Officer informed Paramount chiefs about the importance of educating a girl child as it will help protect them as well as enable them to contribute to national development.
Paramount chief Bai Sebora Kasanga the Second of Bombali Sebora described the MOU as a step in the right direction and appealed for support to enable them embark on mass sensitization in their various chiefdoms.
In another development a memorandum of Understanding addressing ban on child female genital mutilation and abolishment of early marriage was also signed by Sowies and AMNET
