The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Keifala Marah has launched the National Stakeholders Validation Workshop of the National Electoral Commission’s Strategic plan for 2015 to 2019. The theme of the validation is Consolidation for Sustainability. NEC will use the strategic plan to conduct elections and other activities for the next five years.
The Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh says, the new plan is unique from the previous ones.
He denied claims that his commission has a plan to postpone elections.
Mr Conteh stated that, the postponement of the census will affect their work. The Chief Electoral Commissioner said they will use the provisional result of the census which will be available in March 2016 to do boundary delimitation before conducting the local council Election next year.
Representatives of United Nations and UN agencies promised to fund the activities in the plan after its validation.
Both the interim Secretary General of All Political Parties Association William Tucker and the Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission, Justice Tholla Thompson encouraged representatives of all political parties to contribute meaningfully to the validation so as to avoid blaming the commission of having a partial strategic plan.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Keifala Marrah commended NEC for conducting two consecutive credible elections in the past years.
Dr. Keifala Marrah reaffirmed government’s commitment to fund the activity plan of NEC after it shall have been validated.
