The Minister of Energy, Ambassador Henry Macauley has commissioned a 33 KV Earthling transformer at the Black Hall road Power Station.
The 33KV construction and installation was part of the project funded by World Band under the Water and Power Project
The construction was completed in 2011. It operated for a while and developed technical problems due to system faults.
The 33KV Earthling transformer was not in use for close to two years which prompted the Ministry of Energy to contract U.S based company to carry out technical investigations to commence repairs.
Ambassador Henry Macauley thanked President Koroma for giving them the opportunity to prove themselves. He says the operation of the transformer will make a big difference as most commercial and industrial activities are based in the East end of Freetown.
Before the repair of the transformer there was an existing 11KV interconnector from Falcom Bridge to Black Hall Road which is however insufficient and created serious challenges on the network power evacuation capacity to the East end of Freetown.
Technical Adviser of the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Patrick Tarawallie says the ministry is productive in electricity. He says the transformer will improve voltage and power fluctuation and will sustain continuous reliable power supply.
Director General EDSA, Alhaji Timbo says the transformer will increase EDSA revenue collection, maximize the utilization of Bumbuna Hydro power output and will invest to further improve power supply in the country.
Counsellor Amadu Kargbo of ward 366 says, before the repair of the transformer they were experiencing serious power fluctuation and dim light. He appeals with the ministry to install efficient street light for security purpose.
