The Petroleum Regulatory Agency has organised a workshop for Petroleum Retail managers in the Western Rural Area at the Women’s Vocational Training Center, Kingharman Road in Freetown.
The Executive chairman of the Petroleum Regulatory Agency Dan Mason said this is the first training organised by the Agency for Petroleum Managers which is of vital importance for the improvement of petroleum products
Chief Engineer Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure ING Hassan Savage said the training is a good initiative to sensitize and educate mangers of petroleum retail outlets on registration and compliance, health, safety and environmental issues related to their business.
He added that petroleum business is very delicate which requires high standard guidelines and regulations from the point of installation, transportation, storage to operations for the health and safety of people and the environment.
Chairman Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Trade Hon. Sidi Yayah Tunis said the training will enhance efficiency in the Petroleum products and that the responsibility of the sector is to ensure that they uphold efficiency in the petroleum market.
. He said that with the training, Managers should start increasing productivity, efficiency, standards and safety measures .
Keynote speaker and Board Member of the Petroleum Regulatory Agency Fatmata Binta Taqi said the training was an outcome of a monitoring exercise which captured several issues like non and incomplete registration of outlets , products safety, health and environmental issues, use of child labour and general poor housekeeping practices.
