Sierra Leone celebrates 55th Independence Anniversary

As the country commemorates 55th Independence Anniversary; President Ernest Bai Koroma whiles congratulating Sierra Leoneans said that the country has been tested severally in the course of its history as an independent state. He said the country has been tested by undemocratic forces, war, and in recent by a very evil disease Ebola.

According to the President Koroma, Sierra Leone prevailed against the war and the deadly Ebola virus and anti-democratic forces in 1996 and implemented the 1991 multi-party constitution in order to restore democracy.

The President noted even though the country is not perfect, but priority is giving to programmes of social protection for the vulnerable, from war wounded, to Ebola survivors, to pregnant women, suckling mothers and children. He calls on Sierra Leoneans to promote and protect the values gained since independence on 27th April, 1961.
